Nancy Drew: Trail of the Twister is an adventure game with Nancy Drew as the main protagonist. She is a detective who travels to Oklahoma at the request of P.G. Krolmeister, to investigate a series of equipment meltdown at the storm research team he sponsors. Nancy goes undercover and joins the team replacing Pete who broke his leg after a suspicious accident.
The story starts off as an assignment and soon enough Nancy gets to Oklahoma. When she arrives there's no one there but some notes telling her what to do. I really like games like this that disguise the tutorial as some steps that need to be done in the storyline. You get to solve a puzzle in the first 5 minutes of playing, and while it is not the hardest puzzle, it does show a bit of the game mechanics and play style. I also liked how the game has a sort of an educational value. Nancy is working with a team who is investigating tornadoes, so she needs to take a quiz on tornadoes when she arrives. The answers to the quiz are real facts about tornadoes, and you also get a short description of the answer.
The interface is very well designed, on the left side you have the in-game functions, and on the right side you have the menu functions. You have an inventory where you store different items and documents that can interact with the world. There is the journal that is designed as a log of your previous actions, and you have a task list which is basically your objectives list. You also have a phone which is equipped with a camera and you can also call people if needs be.
The graphics are pretty good for this type of game and a keyboard is not required, it can be played with the mouse alone. The voice acting is also pretty good and the characters are well defined.
Nancy Drew: Trail of the Twister is definitely a game you'll enjoy with many puzzles and mysteries to solve.
